Abstract. For our collaborative Research Project we decided to research the amount of food that Americans waste each year. Our primary research question that we started out with was, "Can the Freeganism way of life inspire Americans to waste less food?". We realized that Americans really do waste a lot but wanted to look deeper into just how much food was wasted.. We took the topic even further into researching ways in which we, as Americans, could possibly save some of the food waste. One of the ways we researched to limit food waste was freeganism. This was a way of life that all three of us took a lot of interest in and wanted to know more about. We wanted to know if this was a legit way of saving food or if it was over the top and ridiculous! We also researched some of the simpler ways of limiting waste such as proper storage. We looked a little deeper into the real facts about "Expiration dates" on foods. As a group we also interviewed some average Americans to see how they felt about wasted food. We agreed that the best way to present all of this research and information would be through multimodal such as a Weebly. We wanted to be able to show our research in more ways then just words and articles. This allowed us to have charts, pictures, words, and videos to express our thoughts and findings.

To help you navigate...Wanting to Waste Not
This page will highlight the amount that the typical American wastes every day. It will also segue into the idea of Freeganism, through a British student documentary on the culture and how it can minimize the long term affects of wastefulness. We think that you will be amazed by how much food is actually being wasted out there! The Freegan Way We will use Freeganism as a "lens" into the world of conservation. We will discuss the idea of Freeganism (a radical approach to saving food) and explore their way of life. We will take ideas from their lifestyle and create alternate, less radical solutions to avoid wastefulness and advocate preservation and food management in our own lives. Sweat the Small Stuff This page will discuss the alternative choices that we can make to conserve our food that will not alter the average American's daily life. In many cases the changes are small These are some of our ideas thus far...
